Wow. He's FOURTEEN!

Lane turned 14 today. Like many moms, I keep getting caught off guard. How did that happen? Wasn't he just 4 a couple of months ago? Before you have your first child, everyone you know that has one will tell you time goes so much faster when you have a kid. But it's not a concept you can fully appreciate until it's happening to you. It does fly. It was just yesterday that he was toddling about finding every ounce of mischief he could. And now he's 14. Well, now that I think about it, beeing a teen hasn't stopped the mischief .... just the toddling.

Now he's an electronics nut. If he studied his textbooks like he studies electronics magazines, he'd have a 4.0 GPA. He's handy to have around when we need that stuff worked on, though. We've had him install a couple of hardware items in our computer lately. That's nice!

He's a musician. Orchestra and jazz band now. He loves music. All kinds. Not just whatever it is the kids are listening to these days. Actually, he probably can't even tell you what the popular stuff is. But he can tell you an awful lot about Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

He's taking driver's ed this spring.

He's starting high school in the fall.

He's growing into his own.

Wow. What an adventure it's been so far. And, as wild a ride as it has been, I'm sure it will only get more interesting.

Happy birthday, buddy. Can't wait to see where you take us next!!

Expect to never drive again. Once they get behind the wheel, you, as a mom, are no longer driving. Or sitting in the front seat! Watch him carefully, because he's becoming a man and it happens quickly. Your little boy is gone for good!
